What does ECM mean to your business?
- Integrity. Ensure that the content employees and your customers use is current and correct through version control, content standardization, and advanced records management.
- Reuse. Content producers create and access reusable libraries of content elements.
- Distribution. Create content once and publish to a variety of mediums.
- Access. Rich search capabilities allow users and customers to find the content they want when the need it.
- Business Processes Optimization. Document process automation improves the production, review, approval and distribution of content.
- Compliance. Regulations which require records management and security for certain content
- Return on Investment. Properly implemented ECM solutions reduce costs by eliminating duplication of effort, automating document processing, efficiently distributing content and managing regulatory compliance.
How ZIA delivers on the promise of ECM
ECM Solution Briefs:
The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is devoted to creating a new kind of scientific research community, one that emphasizes the pursuit of understanding the common themes that arise in natural, artificial, and social systems. This unique scientific enterprise attempts to uncover the mechanisms that underlie the deeper simplicity present in today’s complex world.
Because the growing SFI community demands both historical and current information about research, methods, and intellectual perspectives, an ad-hoc approach to research, data, and content management is no longer efficient or appropriate. Therefore SFI has defined a new initiative, the Scientific Information System (SIS), to provide a thorough and systemized approach to capturing and disseminating the scientific content of SFI. The SIS solution is intended to facilitate continued ongoing intellectual engagement of the various constituencies that co-evolved with the Institute, and to ensure the Institute continues to impact the way the world thinks about science. The goal of the solution was to provide the sales team of EMC Global Services with a tool that would dynamically generate a Level of Effort for all of the EMC Global Services engagements. This tool would dynamically create all engagement-supporting content and share the same Content Architecture within Documentum, DITA and other business critical enterprise applications. This project will also allow EMC management a means to compare the estimated LOE against actual hours.
Global Service’s goal in the first phase of the project is to provide a robust, interview-based field user interface that would capture engagement information and requirements and generate the appropriate content including Level of Effort (LOE), Statement of Work, Work Breakdown Structure, and other overview, technical and configuration information. This will be based on EMC’s overall DITA-based XML content model, and will leverage the approaches developed in EMC’s User Personalized Documentation (UPD) pilot. The additional complexity (and probable specialization) for Global Services lies in the need to attach base time values and calculations to content that can dynamically generate time estimates used for pricing the individual engagements. The Society Portal (SP) refers to a website that society members will use to work with IEEE. Among other functions, the SP will allow society members to interact with the IEEE Workflow Management System (WMS) to conduct reviews of proofs of articles and issues. WMS uses a Documentum repository to store documents and handle security, versioning, etc.
Based on the large number of society members and the need to have members interact with the system only on sporadic timeframes, the members will not be created as named Documentum users. Society member accounts are based on IEEE Web Accounts and each member’s user id and password are managed through the IEEE web account interface. Read more…
The system was designed for sales teams to reuse marketing material. Workflows were created for approval and loading marketing resources into departmentalized cabinets. The UI was highly customize to optimize user experience (creating various optimize search screens). Used Media Transformation Services to transform media files into various renditions based on the requirements. Thumbnails were generated using the MTS and displayed. Read more…
United Airlines – Integrated Search Application
Create an application that allows airline pilots to study flight manuals online with advanced searching. This project removes the need to a tedious and expensive paper updating process and ensures that the technical writers for United can update content for the Pilots. In the future the API developed for this project will be reused in a tablet PC to be installed in all United Airline Airplanes. Read more…
The Technical Publications department at FedEx Express is responsible for providing up to date maintenance manuals for each aircraft in the FedEx Express wide-body air cargo fleet. This is a daunting task since FedEx Express utilizes a variety of aircraft models manufactured by Airbus, Boeing and McDonnell-Douglas. To complicate matters further, FedEx purchases aircraft from a number of sources and modifies these aircraft to meet their air cargo needs. Due to these factors, FedEx maintenance documentation needs to be modified extensively from the source generated by the OEM. The source OEM documentation comes in a variety of formats and this makes it difficult to maintain and repurpose for use by other groups. Read more…
