Fresh Docs for Alfresco iPhone App

Fresh Docs

Fresh Docs

Zia Consulting has developed a native iPhone application that allows mobile access to an Alfresco document repository.  This application runs against the most recent Alfresco releases; no additional software needs to be installed on the servers and no configuration of Alfresco is required. The app is available on the Apple iTunes Store.

The App is live on the App Store,  search keywords like “Zia”, “Fresh Docs”, or “Alfresco”. It is a free app. We will have the Open Source code available in the first quarter of next year. If you have any questions or comments, send us an email at iphone@ziaconsulting.com. We will still need beta testers for future releases, so stay in touch.

Features:

  • Browse document libraries
  • Full-text search for documents
  • View most common document formats, including:
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Apple iWork files (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
    • PDF
    • Plain Text
    • Image Files
    • Save “favorite” files to the phone for offline access
(when cell service and wifi are slow or unavailable)
    • Attach documents to outgoing emails

Roadmap:

Future releases of this application may include workflow approval/rejection & task notification, access to blogs & discussions, and other Alfresco Share features.  Please feel free to contact us with enhancement requests.

How can I become a beta tester?

This application is currently being beta-tested in preparation for submission to Apple’s app store.  If you would like to participate in the beta test, send your phone’s device identifier to:

iphone@ziaconsulting.com

Your phone’s device identifier is a 40-digit string of numbers and letters.  The easiest way to send this ID is to use another app, called the “Ad Hoc Helper”.  You can search iTunes for “Ad Hoc”, or you can follow this link:

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=285691333

This app will simply display a “send mail” window with your device identifier in the body of your email.

Zia will reply with a copy of the Native iPhone Alfresco Client “signed” specifically to run on your phone along with instructions for installing the app.

Open Source Status:

We will be creating a Google Code project to Open Source the App. Stay tuned for more information! There is a placeholder site at www.freshdocs.org already in place as well as a placeholder Google code project started. Once we determine licensing for the app and finalize the logo development, we will open up the code. Stay tuned in Q1 of 2010 for the code.
