Inc. magazine today revealed that Zia Consulting is No. 4294 on its annual Inc. 5000 list. This is the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment, its independent small businesses. Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Patagonia, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

“I knew that Zia’s biggest challenge, especially over this last year, was maintaining financial viability and managing uncertainty,” said Mike Mahon, CEO and President of Zia Consulting. “Being part of Inc. 5000 is a great honor. It demonstrates that combining our approach of transparency—treating employees, partners, and customers equally around a core of integrity—with creativity and innovation paid off.”

Not only have the companies on the 2021 Inc. 5000 been very competitive within their markets, but this year’s list also proved especially resilient and flexible given 2020’s unprecedented challenges. Among the 5,000, the average median three-year growth rate soared to 543 percent, and median revenue reached $11.1 million. Together, those companies added more than 610,000 jobs over the past three years.

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/inc5000. The top 500 companies are featured in the September issue of Inc., which will be available on newsstands on August 20.

“The 2021 Inc. 5000 list feels like one of the most important rosters of companies ever compiled,” says Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. “Building one of the fastest-growing companies in America in any year is a remarkable achievement. Building one in the crisis we’ve lived through is just plain amazing. This kind of accomplishment comes with hard work, smart pivots, great leadership, and the help of a whole lot of people.”

Zia Consulting is an industry leader in enterprise content management (ECM), process management, document capture, and cloud sharing technologies. They also automate governance and develop tools that line-of-business users rely on everyday for protection.

Zia’s CEO and President, Mike Mahon, measures their success by the results they drive and the people they take care of. A common practice for Mike is to choose a word or two for the business to focus on throughout the year. In January 2020, he picked the words grit and gratitude. When the pandemic hit, he added connectedness, innovation, and growth. He shifted his focus to removing as much uncertainty as possible by communicating curated and factual information from economists and leadership circles every two weeks. He asked employees to become the chief learning officer of their life. Instead of furloughing employees, he formed the Innovation Team, a mix of engineers and leadership people who met regularly to address technical areas of growth and innovation. He and his team became deeply engaged with each other, customers, and partners. They found ways for companies to leverage existing investments so they could do more with less.

Mike is exceptionally good at building culture and teams that are thriving, personally and professionally. He empowers people to live a good life at home, in business, and in their social circles. He embraced the challenges of last year head on by staying curious, flexible, and agile. Out of this came great growth. Mike firmly believes that Zia can sustainably grow by another 60% over the next five years, foster an excellent working environment, and build strong communities by doing well financially and giving back to the places they live and love.
